I believe that the BP oil spill will only be fixed by August (at the earliest) when they drill the relief well (something I think they should have done when they drilled the original well, but I'm not a petroleum engineer). Anyway, I'm starting to think that the current half-assed, public-relations Dog & Pony show (a live camera, really?) they're doing will be useless if a serious hurricane comes in the next couple of months. If a hurricane delays the digging of the relief well, we could have an oil spill that goes on for 8 months.

Well duh.. a hurricane will slow things down.

You are one of the people defending BP here, right? What happened to drilling a relief well along with the original well? Do you think it should be needed for all drilling from now on?

hmmm.. I dont know if you meant to be so sharp in your response but maybe your industry should think about such things before you fuck up everything for everyone else? Now is not the time for anyone in your industry to take a tone like that, that is if you still want an industry that even remotely resembles what you are used too.

let me also add there have been A LOT of "well duh..." moments and 90% of them have been pointed at your industry. I'm sure you are just a pleb but even at your level you shouldn't take such a tone.

I was just pointing out that hurricanes will slow down the drilling operation. I could have posted "No Shit, a hurricane will slow things down." But i was just re-affirming the obviousness of the first post. They evac drilling rigs when storms come into the Gulf. They shut down production facilities as well.

I'm not sure what the future policies will be enacted in the wake of this disaster. I could have just as easily been on the rig when it blew up. I could have actually know the people who died.

Was I defending BP?

There have been "well duh" moments in other industries as well that have had disasters. Passenger airlines and the intelligence community pre-9/11. Lots of "well-duh" moments there, eh? Mining industry has plenty of "well duh" moments, along with well documented prior safety violations (some are repeat offenders, too).
