Oh noes! A category 1 hurricane is about to hit New York! Button down the hatches! Arm the torpedoes! Guard the lifeboats!

I find it interesting how when category 5 hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast, New Yorkers mock southerners and act like those people don't matter, but when even a few drops of rain land on the top of a New Yorker's head, it's the end of civilization as we know it!

Give me a break. Category 1? I honestly doubt there will be even one casualty in New York City.

So you decided to do the exact same thing yourself.

This is a thread designed purely for acrimony. I hope a mod locks it.

I'm not mocking New Yorkers. It is a category 1. No one will be hurt. People are getting scared over nothing.

There have already been dozens (not in NYC, though). Do you read the news?

I said I don't feel sorry for them because I really cannot imagine living one on top of another in a city like NYC. problems like this are compounded massively.

Quit making up history. Aid poured in from all over the country, including New York, after Katrina, Rita, Andrew, etc.

AL getting hit by a Category 1? No big deal. We're used to it. NY getting hit by one? That is certainly a big thing for them. Considering their geographic location, tides, and the fact that they generally aren't prepared to handle hurricanes - this could be bad for them. If my state gets hit by a foot of snow, should they feel bad? Yes. We are completely unprepared for that.
