Wow, I watched the weather channel for about half an hour - they basically said they didn't have much of a clue what this storm is going to do (other than dump some serious rain on a couple of the Gulf states, especially Louisiana. Weather Channel's best guess was *just* under hurricane status. But, it's possibly able to reform itself to the south from convection over the warm water creating a new low spot.

Ugh. I was looking forward to a nice three day weekend before I read about it's direction. Now I'll be inside bored the entire time refreshing ATOT for new posts. :(

Wow, this storm is incredibly interesting to keep an eye on. It has TWO "eyes" - TWO centers of circulation. i.e. it's like an amoeba splitting in two! There will be two Lees! (Although the southern one will have to be given a new name should they both be tropical storm level or greater.)

They're rotating around each other. (Not really "eyes"; I just used that for the idea of the center of rotation.) Sort of like twin tornadoes circulating around each other.

Oh, and Lee is strengthening, with 60mph sustained winds. *sigh* but only forecast to reach 65 before it's inland and done strengthening. *sigh* I was wrong. BUT, there's still Lee's clone that will be sitting out there.

be nice if the low hangs out off the coast for a while although it's going to screw with my barbecue plans tomorrow night. wind makes temp control a bit difficult.

looks like the center drifted west and is now south of lafayette

WOW! A couple of the latest models are showing this:

The evolution thread didn't convince me, but I'm now convinced that God exists - and he hates New Orleans! Lee is going to hit NO twice. And, once again, NO residents are idiots.

I can't help but wonder about some of these regions where they get flooded constantly. For example, if a river floods every few years when there's heavy rainfall, why isn't something done about it? Every time, do they just think, "Well maybe it won't do that again."?

Yeah building things properly costs money - but so does rebuilding everything over and over again. Dear god our species sucks at long-term thinking.
At least some places are better about it, like the Netherlands, with some of their 1-in-10,000-year-storm dike systems.

NO itself really didn't get hit that bad, tbh. I saw the streets flood worse during an overnight thunderstorm in July.

Now as for the people in outlying areas that are outside the levee system, I can't endorse their suicidal behavior.
