Hurricane Katrina Survivor

I live about 30 miles away from the coast of mississippi, currently the house is running on a generator. The coast is destroyed.. all the casinos and everything. its bad

do you have enough water/food to stay in your house?
best of luck to you
we pray for your safety

How is the connection to your ISP working if nothing else in the area is working? Wouldn't substations be down? Wouldn't local routing centers be out of commission?

I call shens.

Glad to hear you're ok!

Lots of people have internet connections and nothing else, it's really quite impressive.

The internet is a beautiful work of art. It's largely self-healing, and the infrastructure itself is ridiculously hardened. Fiber optics aren't easily fscked by being submerged. Routing locations are sickly redundant in their power supplies. Many centers will scale their service and bandwidth down to match available power reserves to keep things running as long as possible. It's the only "utility" that we have that has inbuilt failsafes for every conceivable scenario. Teh intraweb could survive nuclear war.

yeah we have enough food, and we have the generator hooked up to the well so we have water. my house wasnt hurt as much as the other houses. we lost alot of shingles and the roof started leaking. i am uploading pictures right now
