Yea, the recent savage burning of Brazilian old-growth rain forest is quite sad, the rest of the industrialized world will have to pony up a sweet sum of $$ to bribe Brazil and other countries into not destroying this vital part of the planet's lungs. South American farmers are looking to plant soybeans there since China has all but stopped buying it from us. We've got another issue here in the US and that's with excessive amounts of carbon emitted from the large vehicles so many drive, when someone drives a huge SUV or truck they really don't need it adds to the problem.

There are plenty of places where we could start planting forests on a mass scale that would help mitigate some changes as well.

Not "normal." We need to again have a starting position of acknowledging that we have a huge problem in front of us and that we need to apply ourselves intensively, diligently, and without wavering in finding ways to combat it effectively.

You must be joking, most 'muricans won't acknowledge we have a huge problem much less do anything to try to mitigate the issues.

What a dip-shit, how can he NOT know this, Jesus Christ..

Maybe because he doesn't know shit?

I'm about 60 miles west of Orlando. I've been through many hurricanes in New Orleans since the sixties (moved before Katrina) and this one is pretty scary. Hoping it does as they say and turns north and bounces off of the coasts instead of going through FL and other states.

Unfortunately it's still moving due west, I do believe it will eventually make the turn north but if it's only 20 miles offshore this will suck, I have a brother in law in Tampa and we might evacuate there, I cannot see my house surviving 150 MPH winds, I'd rather not be inside it when it fails..

only the biggest most beautiful storms.

Not a joke. I know what you say is true, but at some point that will change. We've had 5 Cat5 hurricanes since Trump was sworn in. At the rate things are deteriorating, it may not be very long before THE ALARM IS SOUNDED, i.e. it becomes clear to the majority that we're careening out of control environmentally. I read WE'RE DOOMED, NOW WHAT, am reading The Uninhabitable Earth. "What is now proved was once only imagined." - William Blake

It's basically parked over the northern Bahamas now waiting to turn. There isn't going to be a lot left on those islands.

Trump doesn’t think he has ever heard of a category 5 storm (despite there being 4 of them during his term).

How could someone who watches hours of TV every day (during his playtime) not have run across the talking heads babbling about the minutia of hurricanes? Five minutes in front of the Weather Channel and Trump would claim he has a doctorate in meterology. Doesn't FauxNews dwell on this as much as the other 24/7 news channels?

The central pressure has dropped down to 922 mb's. The lower it goes the better organized the structure is. When it drops below 900 mb's you know it will be a record breaking storm.
Based on the past few years in the Atlantic, I do believe there is a slightly different relationship between pressure and wind speed in this part of the water. Meaning, the Caribbean and lower latitude storms appear to need lower pressure to attain these incredible speeds. Perhaps the dominant ridge (Bermuda High) that steered this storm westward helps accentuate its maximum sustained wind speed. Just a guess.

Just been a super favorable environment.

Yep. Nobody has ever heard of a Category 5 hitting land before because, obviously, it's never happened until now. It's the fourth Cat-5 hurricane since he's been elected, and he's said the same thing every time.

Did you guys also know that Fred Douglass has been doing some great things, and big water is wet?

Possible Trump word salad - "Guy came up to me. Big guy. Very powerful, with the muscles, very big. Tears running down his face. He said, Sir, thanks to you we now have Category 5! Category 5, Folks. Category 5. Never heard of it before. Tremendously powerful. Very wet. Massively wet water, so wet from this standpoint of the water. Water has never been this wet before. They've never seen it. The winds are tremendous. No one has ever seen winds this tremendous. So tremendous. Very powerful. Category 5 folks, I told them they might even have to do a 6. If Crooked Hillary had won we would only have Category 4s. Trump? Category 5. Very powerful. And wet. Very wide. If Democrats win in 2020, Category 4, folks. Category 3. Low energy. With Trump we are winning again with the hurricanes. Thank you, Mr. Trump!"
