Hurricane category 5 starts at 155, but the fastest recorded hurricane was Camille which was the only storm to actually strike land with 190 mph (305 km/h) sustained winds and 210 mph (335 km/h) gusts. Shouldnt that be like a Category 6 or something? :Q

Might as well reinvent the scale. Didn't they have to do that a few years ago after that big ass tornado ripped across Oklahoma for several hours?

Haha so it's a mental thing then? Keep it at Cat5 and you don't think you're as fvcked. I like your style of thinking. :p

it's like boxing or other sport with weight class. once you pass a certain weight class, you just have to stop, otherwise super duper uber heavy weight would sound ridiculous

And i wonder what stops a hurricane from just becoming faster and faster, maye the water temp? Comeone there must be some meteorologists on this board! :)

Watch The Day After Tomorrow if you want to see Cat 6. Anything less is just too weak to qualify.

I think the categories relate to damage (which in turn relates to a specific wind speed), at least that's how tornadoes are rated.

I saw day after tomorrow, and the only real crazy thing about that "hurricane" was that it froze everything in its path...

And if you ever heard of or remember a hurricane called "Tip" you would know that was basically the same thing but without the super duper freezing effects.

Check out the size of Super Typhoon Tip in relation to the USA

Super Typhoon Tip

The most intense storm on record was Typhoon Tip in the northwestern Pacific Ocean in 1979, which had a minimum pressure of only 870 mb and maximum sustained windspeeds of 190 mph (305 km/h). It weakened before striking Japan. Tip was also the largest cyclone on record, with a circulation 1,350 miles (2,170 km) wide.

because having a category 6 would mean that somewhere, someone would have to do paperwork and then the Federal Government's Abandomen--I mean Perperation, Planning would have to have a nice written outline for Category 6.
