After pulling the Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzales off the air for more than three years out of concern that he would be regarded as a Mexican stereotype, Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network has reconsidered its decision and will bring him back, the New York Daily News reported today (Thursday). Laurie Goldberg, a spokeswoman for the cable network told the newspaper, "With the sudden interest in the [Speedy cartoon shorts], we decided to rotate it in and see how it does." The network's decision was presumably influenced by objections from Mexican-American groups who protested that the decision to bar Speedy was political correctness run amok.
