My fileserver box (full tower 5 hard drives, burner, cdrom, 180 gb of storage) is running on an first generation PIII450 and an asus P2B-F. I've got a promise ata/66 controller in there to run the most recently added hard drives, but even so, its getting a bit antiquated and slow, as the BX chipset is only udma/33..
Before I pull its monitor out for good and have it just sit somewhere and serve storage for me i'd like to get it all running ata/100... of course, the logical best way to do such, just get a mobo which will do it for me; the proc and 192 of pc100 is more than enough for a box that just serves ftp and files to me on my lan and burns an occasional cd.
The logical choice is the BE6-II version 2.0, with its ata/100 primary controller and highpoint ata/100 on board as well... however i'm having a rough time finding one
One online retailer is asking about $150 and I found one for auction on ebay for $90 with a $15 shipping policy... I understand this product is probably a low production, low demand, and this higher priced specialty item... but am I only really stuck with those 2 options?
My questions are
1) is there another board that would do me for what I'm asking
2) anybody know where I could get what i'm looking for maybe a bit easier or cheaper.
i'd appreciate any help anybody could give
