I was talking to a few of my friend's the other day and I (being a vegetarian) asked how many of them had ever killed an animal for food? (They were all non-vegetarians.) Most of them were squeamish and thought it was a horrible thing to do, strangely enough I feel that if you're going to eat meat then you should at least be WILLING to gut a fish or something. I mean ... I would have absolutely NO moral dilemma about cutting down a stalk of corn. So I was just wondering ... how many of you guys that eat meat would kill an animal (for food) and for those who wouldn't how would you justify it?

you have to hit the fish in the head with a bat or a mallet or something to put it out of its misery.

If I was out in the wilderness, I wouldn't have any problem killing a cow or whatever to survive.

The problem is just being grossed out and knowing how to properly prepare for eating.

Biggest animal I ever killed was a fish. I suppose if I had to I'd be able to kill a big animal like a deer and skin it if somebody showed me how.

I would and I do. I go hunting every year and i've killed lots of animals for food.

What cracks me up is people that object to hunting but have no problems going to the supermarket and buying meat.

Most of the people I had talked to basically replied that they wouldn't, couldn't, and that it was cruel. Didn't really see how it was any crueler to do it yourself rather than do it via another method.

Well then they're ignorant. If you're a meat eater and have no qualms eating the product of slaughter houses and animal farms you don't have a leg to stand on calling hunting cruel. In most cases a hunter-shot animal dies fairly quickly after having lent a life playing in the forest. Contrast to a chicken, for instance, that has lived in prison its entire life and before being killed had its beak cut off at the tip, then bled alive or whatever the hell else happens to the chickens we enjoy ever Xmas.
