Rebate brings these down to $295. I searched on the web and it seems like others are finding this deal in Wal-Marts across the country, starting earlier this week. Caliber selection may be limited. Supposedly Wal-Mart is clearing these out and will soon start selling the 700 combo'd with a scope. For a gun that's regularly in the $450-$500+ range, this is a great deal! These guns are the standard (not the gold standard, but the standard) bolt-action rifle for hunting all across the country and have been for the last 40 years. Any of the offered calibers will easily take down deer, antelope, etc. Step up to the bigger calibers and you can hunt any native game in North America. The ADL with the Synthetic stock is the plain-jane, utilitarian rifle of the line. It doesn't look as fancy as some of the wood-stock ones, but it's got the same action and everything. It also only has a non-detachable magazine (some other 700 models have detachable mags) that holds 3 or 4 rounds, depending on caliber.

Note that you might find the Model 710 for under $300 with a scope included. This gun is not nearly as good as the 700. The 710 is easily distinguished as it has a really crappy looking and feeling gray plastic stock. The black synthetic stock on the 700 ADL Syn is nice and smooth. So don't buy the wrong thing! Look on the barrel of the gun that you're buying to make sure that it's the 700 in the caliber that you want.

I bought 2 at $325, one in .30-06 and one in .243. This was at the Burleson, TX Wal-Mart Supercenter. Had to go out there because Wal-Marts in the city of Fort Worth don't sell guns any more. I snagged the last .243 and .30-06. Seemed like they had at least one Youth Model .243 at this price and several in 7mm caliber. I don't think they had any in .270, although I really only asked about .30-06 and .243.

EDIT: Note, these rifles do not come with scopes (they don't have iron sights either). IMO you should spend at least $150-$200 on a scope - anything less would be kind of like pairing a Core 2 Extreme QX6850 with a 7300LE. Nikon Buckmasters are a good quality standard choice, as is the Leupold line. Wal-Mart carries a basic selection of both. Academy Sports (if you're lucky enough to have them in your area) carries a huge selection at good prices. (BTW Academy is currently selling the same Rem 700 for $430 AR, IIRC.)

ADLs are nice rifles. I've got both a Remington 30-06 bolt & simi-auto, and both have the same Redfield scope. The bolt action will drive tacks at 200 yd, but the simi-auto begins to noodle after the first two shots. I guess it just has too many moving parts that are affected by the heat. This is a very good price, I'm sure I paid over $450 for my ADL about 8 years ago :Q

Yes, all model 700s are bolt-action. The ADL part just means the grade of the gun (similar to trim level on a car). BDL's and CDL's have nicer stocks, etc. Apparently Remington has discontinued the ADL's altogether. The wooden ADL's are gone completely. They kept the synthetic stock ADL updated the stock slightly and it's now sold as the Model 700 SPS. If you want a wood stock you will have to step up to the BDL's or other trim levels. There are a great many varieties of this gun, some with heavier barrels for long-distance shooting and others with lighter barrels for people who hike their guns up into the mountains. Some with really nice wood and engraving, etc. The ADL (now SPS) is the base model but with all the functionality of the others.

Really good deal. Thanks OP. Unfortunately I don't have a walmart with a gun department anywhere near me (nor can we hunt with rifles in MA). :(

I do have one comment about the scope recommendation though. I learned the hard way that as a rule of thumb you really should spend more on your optics than you spend on the gun (unless the gun is exotic). A really good variable VXIII or Valdata scope will run you $500+. They are worth it!!

Oops.. You're right. I was in such a hurry to respond I didn't double check my details. I still stand by my statement that my bolt action Remington is more accurate than my simi-automatic Remington, so the original post is a HOT deal in my book.

Sorry about the mistake in my previous post.

The irony of the Fort Worth, TX store not selling guns anymore makes my feet sad.
