Hunter fined $18 million for forest fire

how dumb can you be for not putting out your campfire before you go to bed. If you don't have enough water and a trenchtool to put out a fire, you shouldn't be starting them.... moron

File bankruptsy?
Most pople don't even make 18million in a lifetime.

I'm not sure if you can file bankruptsy against a government debt.

At any rate, I'm suprised the Judge imposed this fine unless the defendant is unusually rich. These are damages that are well beyond a person's ability to pay within a lifetime.

While it was stupid, I don't really blame the guy. He was lost hunting and trying to stay warm so he didn't die.

It didn't say anything about survival... this was the late summer months, and he was probably just bored or chilled and lit a fire with no regard. If this was a battle for survival or to save his toes or something (frostbit) I would understand.
