Hungary To Tax Internet Traffic
The Hungarian government has announced a new tax on internet traffic: 150 HUF ($0.62 USD) per gigabyte.
In Hungary, a monthly internet subscription costs around 4,000-10,000 HUF ($17-$41), so it could really put a constraint on different service providers, especially for streaming media.
This kind of tax could set back the country's technological development by some 20 years to the pre-internet age.
Update 10-31-2014
If this was the U.S. there would have been no way to cancel the tax once put in place.

Hungary Internet Traffic Tax Cancelled After Protests
Hungarian politicians had been considering a tax that would have set forth a tax of 150 forints (60 US cents) per gigabyte of data traffic, while also giving ISPs significant corporate income tax reductions. Knowing full well the tax would be passed on to them, Hungarian citizens protested the move -- and apparently have been heard loud and clear.
The BBC states that after protests the government initially offered to cap the tax at 700 forints ($2.86) per month for individuals and 5,000 forints ($20.47) for companies, but has since scrapped the plan entirely after Hungarian citizens still weren't buying the proposal.
