Hundreds of Philly police officers work administrative jobs that could be done by civilians

I became aware of this a quarter century ago, when I was a P.I. In that job, you always need to cultivate insiders, such as also in the DMV, etc. A woman who was a programmer for the Police Dept. told me that 500 uniformed officers were infesting their IT dept, and that they lorded it over the civilian workers in the crudest and most intimidating way possible while also being lazy, ignorant and totally unsuited for the job. Then, as now, there was a shortage of officers on the street.

Back then, nobody I knew was aware of this, and there was not one word of it in the press.

The same was true in the NYPD. But many cops who worked as typists and who filled out forms were NOT in physical shape to work the streets. And they had to nerve to resent civilian employees.

I bet you have some tales to tell, Perknose.

EDITED to include the "NOT."

Yet I have to deal with assholes claiming that police are underpaid and overworked. When I bring up how many police make 6 figures getting overtime while simultaneously getting paid for "security" at concerts that they're not actually doing jack shit security for, they STFU. And that's the "legal" means they use to game shit (let's just say there's lots of below board shit that goes on as well, everything from pimping sex workers - often including underage girls - to drug running and protection of such). Its like they think people don't know about the shit cops pull. And sorry Perk, but this has been known for some time. I genuinely think its viewed as a net positive for society though since its better to have less of these lazy corrupt psychopaths on the street, and it puts warm bodies in areas that otherwise they wouldn't have funding to pay actual competent people.

This is where the shred of truth when dipshits like Turmp rail about incompetent idiots in the government comes from. Right wingers don't know jack shit about this because they're goddamned idiots that choose to be stupid at every turn. But its one of the reasons why people in government were concerned about Turmp, as he basically tried to force out the competent people and elevate these jackasses to positions of power where they'll enable all manner of corruption.

Hell, wasn't this how the FEMA chief that wasn't qualified whatsoever got to his position back under W where he got exposed after one of the hurricanes (Katrina maybe? Although I think it might've been before then?). He was basically some deputy dipshit from some podunk ass police force that got put int a civil position and then failed his way up because the people knew he was a fraud and wanted him gone so they basically gave him recommendations for advancement? I might be getting it confused with some other situation.

In the rear with the gear, meanwhile Philly passed 500 murders in 2022, and crime generally out of control.
Must be nice.
