I read of some dude using chlorine gas to kill a bedbug infestation. Dangerous practice to do it yourself, but it worked in his case without human casualties. (involves mixing bleach with ammonia, leaving home for a while then opening all the winodws when you return) I Read it on the net while researching ways to eliminate bugs.

stings? I think that'd be the least of your problems if you inhale it.

like I said he opened all the windows and aired it out.

not that I would try it.

On a similar note, when I was about 13 I went with some family friends to their cabin up in the mountains, and when we opened the place up, it was crawling with spiders. The bathtub alone had to have 50 spiders in it. We actually ended up sleeping on the floor and all night long I could feel spiders crawling all over me. Needless to say, I haven't really liked spiders since.....:(

This is going to totally creep you out, but it's the way things work. Spiders are predators. They use up vast amounts of protein to spin their webs, and they have to eat often. They don't just hang around somewhere for the hell of it. All those spiders were hanging around in the cabin because the eating was good. How many thousands of insects were there that you couldn't see to feed the hundreds of spiders that you could?

I fvcking hate spiders, and I don't deal with them. I've got a can of strong ass bug spray, and if I see one he gets doused. At work they know not to call me if there are spiders or to mess with me. My boss tried to get me to help clean out an old building, and I refused and told him he could fire me. I refuse to touch, see, or deal with spiders in any shape form or fashion. Stab me in the stomach, or shoot me in the face, but leave me the hell alone when it comes to spiders. Gross.

I am a part time real estate agent. I took a couple to house they wanted to see. The house was in the country part of town. The house set back like in a wooded section. It was empty, when I opened the door to go in, all that was in the house was spiders. I mean lots of spiders. Webs everywhere. It looked like something from a movie. The couple had a young child they were getting out of the car about to come in. When I walked through the livingroom into the kitchen I was scared because there were so many. Big black spiders. When I heard them coming in I yelled stop do not come in here. The father looked in and said OMG, then he agreed with me that this was not a house they would be interested in. It was absolutely freaky.

Family Still Stuck In Spider-Infested Home
http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=2957537
(LOUISVILLE) -- We have an update on the family whose home is infested with poisonous Brown Recluse spiders. WAVE 3 Troubleshooter Charla Young reports.

Melissa and Steven Field's home in Goshen is infested with spiders, and they've captured over 500 of the poisonous Brown Recluse spiders. "Our entire life has really turned upside down," Melissa says.

With two young children and another one on the way, the couple is worried -- a Brown Recluse bite can be fatal to kids and the elderly.

Treatments by two extermination companies haven't been effective, and traps set up around the home offer little comfort.

The Fields blame the previous homeowners for not disclosing the spider problem when they bought the home. Initially, the sellers' attorney told them the previous homeowners "are not liable for the spiders."

He also told the Fields "if an expert could present evidence that indicates the infestation existed at the time of the sale" he would be interested in reviewing it.

Former UK entymologist Chris Christensen, who owns Urban Insect Solutions, issued a report after inspecting the home. In it he says "it is my opinion that the house was infested with Brown Recluse spiders when you purchased it in May of 2004."

The sellers' attorney did review the expert's opinion. But he told us that "it was just a meaningless piece of paper and does not establish anything."

The attorney has asked for the data and research that supports Christensen's opinion. The attorney also told us construction work recently done inside the home could have caused the problem. "And that the issue will be resolved through mediation or binding arbitration -- and not the media."

We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Time to "fall asleep with a lit cigarette". <wink> <wink> <nudge> <nudge> Say no more!

Chlorine gas is not allowed for use as a pest control agent, is a powerful oxidiser and should NEVER be used for this application.

IF a licensed PCO calls for full edificial fumigation, the agent used is Sulfuryl Fluoride, known as Vikane in the trade. This kills everything and ONLY a licensed PCO can perform this service.

Hell with this crap. Those look like the spiders that are running around the outside of my house now. I had around a dozen on my front porch the other day scampering around my baseboards.

I'm definitely calling an exterminator now.
