i dont understand this,

some people are getting huge performance increases (20-40%)
some are getting medium gains like myself (10-20%)
and others gets drops

like cainam and myself are both usin x800pros but he seems 2 have a much higher performance gain,
and ive see lots of other situations like this also

i wonder why this is.....

1.8GHz AXP and 9800 Pro

10x7 High quality
% increase with tweak: 42% (28fps to 40fps)

No artifacts encountered. IMO this tweak kicks some serious fps butt.

So the hack/fix is unreliable at best? Drastically different results for different platforms? I don't get it.

In general the "hack" gives a performance boost, even if its small, to newer generation cards without any visual degrades.

It seems like some older cards are suffering from it, but then again, some are not

I went from 38 fps, to 35 FPS as far as I can tell.

I've tried to figure out if there are any other factors but I don't see any. seems to have gone down.

its kind of insane, and there doesn't seem to be any clear explanation why systems differ so much.

the one I used

1. unzip glprograms folder
2. add folder to 'Base' folder

as a precaution, I added both the vfp file AND the glprograms folder containing another copy of the vfp file to both the Base folder and the Doom3 folder.

From the results I've had and M4H had, it appears as though this tweak only works if you're using AF or using high detail or better, since that uses 8x AF. It's like you almost get AF for free. However, I think this tweak isn't even implementing AF correctly, so it doesn't even work. Unless someone can get screenshots showing that your AF is enabled and looks filtered compared to 0x, then there's no reason to assume this tweak will do anything, unless someone else is using something like 10x7 medium detail no AF and getting a boost.

Tested this tweak on my backup system, and there was about a 2fps increase, or roughly 6% with AF forced from the CP. Even 10% isn't much to write home about at these framerates. This tweak is probably more significant on a X800.

A64 2800+ Stock
1024GB PC3200
ATI R350 9800 Pro 128MB Stock
36fps 1024x768 HQ 2XAA 8XAF (AF via ATI CP)
37.3fps 1024x768 HQ 2XAA 8XAF (AF via game)

Autoexec.cfg:

seta com_showFPS 1
seta image_useCache 1
seta image_cacheMegs 512
seta image_cacheMinK 20480

seta com_videoRam 128
seta r_vertexBufferMegs 64
seta r_displayRefresh 85
set image_downSizeBumpLimit "512" //1024 for 256mb gfx. 512 for 128mb gfx. 256 for 64mb gfx
set image_downSizeBump "1"
seta g_nightmare 1

The good thing is, at these settings everything looks great...don't notice a difference from the 6800GT in the timedemo, except that its a lot slower, but still playable. No need to turn off shadows and stuff.

I don't think you need to have AF on; I have it completely off and I still get a boost.
