We have a couple humidifiers going in the house - one full blast (necessity) all night and most of the day in the same room as the big screen tv and receiver/speakers. It is placed about 6 feet away from them but I'm not so sure that's a factor since the whole room is noticeably humid anyway. Exactly how bad is this for the electronics? Would a bedsheet covering it be of any use (we don't watch that tv except 1hr of the day). I know from experience in our bedroom that wall paint peels off over time too.

Get a hygrometer (measures humidity). I'd guess that yours is way to high if it's peeling the paint off the walls. Then there's mold.....

Q: What is the ideal humidity inside your home to prevent mildew and mold?

A: A relative humidity below 50 percent will inhibit mold and mildew growth as well as reduce dust mite infestations and bacteria. A range of 25 to 40 percent is ideal, especially in colder climates. An inexpensive hygrometer will help monitor the humidity level in your home. You can reduce the humidity in your home by venting bathrooms, dryers, and other moisture sources to the outside. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers also help to prevent mildew and mold growth.

What's the best humidity?

If the heat is also on in the house I doubt it. The amount of water in the air is usually much higher in the summer then using a humidifier in the dry winter.

In my house we have 1 maybe 2 in the bedroom as it gets dry. I have a meter and know we have low mositure levels that and my hardwood floors tell me as well. :)

So don;t run it beside the equipmemnt and you should be ok.

The heat is indeed on and the winter months coupled with 2 infants (1 sick) is the reason. I'll pick up a meter this afternoon... but it looks like you're saying as long as the heat is on as well, the humidifier being on isn't making it any worse. I'll have to make sure it's not over 50% though as specified. There are drafts in certain places in the house so it's all out of whack between keeping this place warm and moist enough. Along with cool tile floors, it's great in the summer with no need for A/C... sucks for winter.

unless your electronics are right above the humidifier, you are fine.

I don't think your paint peeling has to do with the humidifier, unless your water vapour is aimed at the wall.
