This game hype reminds me of Empire Total, all the hype, all the advertising, I cannot believe all the crap I'm reading about this game.

The Stealth is crap.. as long as you are crouched they can't see you even when you're in light.

The AI is crap.. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty level, I'm so bored instead of even trying to immerse myself in this game anymore, I walk into a new room shoot a couple guys and run out. The mercs won't even follow me through a door, I wait a couple minutes till they are calm, quick save and go in again with less people to kill. They are just walking around calmly with the first people I killed lying on the floor, totally ignored. I think they make the ammo in such short supply to give an illusion of difficulty and tension.

I'm 4 hours into this game and I can't bear to start it up again I was hoping this would be another System Shock 2 like experience. I played that game 80 hours in a one week period, LOL. Now that was a great game, you could listen to the audio logs while you creep through the ship. In Human Revolution, you come across all these newspapers and emails that you have to read but it's all drivel and the Hacking system.. The Hacking System is crap as well. What a useless waste of time, boring as heck and difficult to even understand what you're doing, I don't even WANT to understand it because it's so lame, I want to hack like in Bioshock.

You can't even lean, you could lean in the first dues ex 11 years ago but not anymore... too complicated for the programmers I guess. They try and sell it as stealth and you can't even lean, wow.

I think Far Cry 1 PC had better graphics. You could lean, go prone, find multiple paths and on the hardest difficulty it took me 45 hours to complete. So why is this game taxing my system? I can play Bad Company 2 (500 hours or so) just fine and everything is destructible. In Human revolution you can't even shoot a plastic bottle off a shelf, almost everything is static and will not move.

I was wondering why I couldn't get into this game so I started re-reading user reviews at meta and the best comment I read was, "if this game had a different name and none of the hype it would be lucky to get 60%". I couldn't have said it better.

I'm ranting but only because I got sucked into this crap game $50 down the tubes.

Btw, If you want stealth, Play Splinter Cell it's 100x better.

We already have a Deus Ex thread.

This should probably have gone in the main Deus Ex thread, but I'll give my 2 cents.

For me, the stealth mechanics are functional. What I adore about the game so far is that it lets you play the game how you want. You can go in guns blazing, try to sneak by, or subtly tranquilize enemies. And the game acknowledges the differences in the approach.

Graphically, the game's textures and models are good but not exceptional. The game has wonderful aesthetics though, combining an excellent lighting system with brilliant art design.

Really though, what's mainly drawing me in about the game is the story, themes, and writing. It brings a philosophical side that is rarely seen in games.

Oh, and at least the AI isn't as bad as Alpha Protocol.

You liked the lighting system? I didn't even notice it, what I did notice that there were no light switches. I couldn't turn off any lights, I couldn't shoot out any light bulbs like you can in splinter cell, you know to make it dark to hide of course you don't really have to hide in this game. I ran past a policeman in a police station, I shot him dead, all the other cops starting shooting me so I just went in the bathroom... two minutes later everything was fine, LOL . But I did notice that you can flush the toilets just like you could in the Original Duke Nukem back in my N64 days, LOL.

I also hated going from 1st to 3rd person every time you put your back to a crate. Too gimmicky, I would have preferred to lean and shoot and stay 1st person.

I uninstalled this game after half hour of playing, it is nothing but another cheap, poorly done console port. Game reviews can't be trusted anymore!

Isn't that the truth!

Man I thought I learned my lesson with Empire Total War, nope, total crap. Then I got sucked into Medal of Honour... it's just too easy to buy a game from steam:D

edit: another comment I wanted to make about the stealth. I love stealth, I played Far Cry like it was stealth, Loved splinter cell hide the bodies etc. I also like running and gunning and I like rpg elements like in System Shock 2. But in Human evolution, when I did try going through stealth, it was fairly easy because, like I said, they really can't see you unless you're really close and in front. But if they are 40 feet they're blind as a bat. Anyway, what I started doing was ignoring them and just used my radar. When the arrow points away, I move. I remember doing that in a solid snake game and it really takes away the challenge. I remember once I got caught in a room I think because I stabbed a guy (or watched the animation of a guy being stabbed) and all I did was go up a ladder and wait a few minutes then everything was back to normal. You're health comes back, the mercs go about there business as if nothing happened. I don't know...

and the only reason I would drag a body (since they ignore them anyway, even dead cops in a police station) is if I can't see where he dropped his gun.

Big name game being overrated by websites that rely solely on advertisers (the people who made said game) for money! Say it isn't so.

Game is decent but I agree that the AI is really bad and it's obviously a console port, no matter what people say. A lot of enemies won't even see me when I'm in their peripheral field of vision. Anyway was good for $34.

It's not a console "port", either on the technical side or the control side. Fully mappable keys, changeable field of view, DX 11 support, etc. It was designed with consoles in mind, yes, but that's not the same thing as being developed for consoles and then porting that code to PC.

As for paul878 saying he played it for a half hour then judged it as a poor console port...I have a feeling:

Not Northern Lawn though, you have (what appears to you) to be genuine grievances.

This game might have DX11 support, but it sure doesn't show it. The graphic looks like something from 10 years ago. The characters move like Pinocchio, the game environment is none destructed. Maybe because I am a PC Gamer and my expectation is that of a PC Gamer, but my opinion is that this game is WAY Over Hyped! Duke Nukem Forever was better in my book.

Was that the last Duke game that just came out? At least that game had a Demo. I played the demo and it saved me from buying that crap. Bad business on their part, if there was no demo I would have bought it easy, LOL.

I can sit here and say that the people who hate on this game, are the same people who could NOT beat *any* metal gear games. Yeah, that's right. I said, metal gear.

I beat System shock 2, I beat Far Cry on Veteran, I was number 28 in the world (number 1 in Canada) out of 45,000 playing america's army and I beat Metal Gear. Maybe you haven't played a lot of games and think a Hardy Boys mystery is an example of Great Literature. Or maybe we just have different tastes.

I can't some up my feelings better then this guy:

"This game is not good. In short, the plot is pretty dull, the voice acting is average (excepting a few characters), and the aesthetics are completely uninspired. It's all just amber monitors and 'future shine' with tons of useless clutter thrown in everywhere. I wouldn't really care much about those things if the game play was any good, but it's not. Dues Ex doesn't do much but sample and dilute the game play from superior titles. It doesn't do stealth nearly as good as splinter cell, thief, or Hitman. It doesn't do combat as good a myriad of recent and ancient titles too long to list, and the RPG elements are pretty bare bones. It's basically, talk to it, shoot it, stun it, or walk around it (hacks / stealth). And Stun it and Shoot it are the same thing for all intents and purposes; just another body to drag into a vent. [As dragging corpse simulators go, it's not even that good. Sling the **** over your shoulder and hussle would you.] More Gripes: Hacking Mini-game? Haven't we had enough of this crap? (The only enjoyable instance of this was in Dead Space 2 for the tension it brought). Please stop giving me a puzzle a goat with Down's Syndrome could solve and call it game play. Weapons? Completely uninspired. They just put a 'future' skin on the same dull weapon archetypes you see in every shooter since time immemorial. You can have a rifle, a pistol, a grenade of some kind, and some heavy guns. This is all they could think of? Oh, you can also have those things in ' stun ' versions, so you can be a pacifist. And the 'Typhoon' Weapon...? Nothing says "we're out of ideas" more than an autokill button. Also, Max Payne called, he wants his spin animation back. AI? Terrible. The same old, ''oh no a dead body, lets investigate... oh well he's not here, resume combat patrol.' This day and age, and with a budget as big as this game, this is INEXCUSABLE. They make up for this by just making them super accurate and giving you limited health, to disguise the fact that the enemies are dumber than Doom zombies. Game play innovations? None. Zero. Not one thing is new in this game. And as I've said, they can't even STEAL from games properly and make it fun. Plot? Pretty dull Tom Clancy style thriller with some allegorical crud about augmented people being a new minority. Not to mention it heavily cribs from Mass effect 2 / Dead space 2 with the whole Hospital Resurrection after traumatic event scenario (Not that that concept wasn't done to death a decade ago). At least he didn't get amnesia as well. Want a better plot? Why not make it the protagonists choice to augment himself. Make it a moral issue. Give some **** conflict too it. Nope, he just wakes up with some cool new arms and a heads up display. Augmentations? Boring Boring Boring. 6 or so levels of 'energy enhancer.' In the far future, I'm picking up Zelda Hearts. Woop-de-doo. There's An eye enhancement that literally tells me when enemies will resume their combat patrol. And some other miscellaneous nonsense that lets me run faster or pick up heavier items or steady my aim. RPG-wise this is just a JAVA fantasy RPG rapped in sci fi skin, but you don't have spells to make it fun. Cover Based Fighting? I don't mind this in games, but Dues Ex manages to make it clunky enough to not want to use, but necessary to use almost 100% of the time if you're going for stealth. Have fun sticking to walls wherever you go. Also, This game can't decide to be first or third person, and generally picks the worst of both worlds. Auto KILL / Stun? You can press Q to instantly kill or stun someone near you. You get to watch an animation. They don't even give you a quicktime event to be bored with. Climbing? Nope, YOU NEED TO STACK BOXES, even though you're a superhuman killing machine. And to get around this, you can buy an upgrade to let you jump higher. Whatever it takes not to make a climbing over short obstacles animation huh? To anyone wanting to play this anyway, wait till it's on the bargain bin. If you spend $60 on this you're a sucker. I've played the original Dues Ex, but this game is Dues Ex in title only, and a pretty cynical attempt to rake in cash based on brand loyalty. I guarantee, if this game had another title and less hype, it wouldn't score past 60% on most reviews. And no, I didn't finish the game, because if it's not fun in the first 6 hours, It won't be fun later, says my common sense so don't give me this 'no-patience, go play CoD crap.' I have patience enough for good games."

I'm only like 5 hrs into the game and I have to agree with the OP, the AI is dumb, the graphics are pretty poor, the game-play is not all that.

I particularly find it weird that you can hide inside an open air vent and the alarmed guards pass within an inch from your location without being bothered to check it, although it would seem like the main break in point to just about any dumb cop.

My inventory is full at all times with completely useless crap, since I use take-down almost always, I have upgraded the capture ability first, since everything else is just enough the way it is.

I found myself comparing it to Splinter Cell as well, and I have to say I find this one weaker in many respects, although I do like the hacking mini-game.

I find the story a bit intriguing, I'll see how that turns out especially since I feel compelled to finish it for some reason(I must like it and I'm probably not aware of it yet :p )

Have you ever played Bioshock 1? If you like hacking you'd probably love that game, it might be the best hacking "mini game" I ever came across. It was sensible and challenging, great game as well but hard to get head shots.

And I'll probably try and finish Human Revolution as well though I might try to put it on easy and run gun the whole thing in hopes it gets better with augs. I paid $49.99 for this thing:(

^ I never finished Bioshock, couldn't get myself to like it at all, everything just seemed way off to me. I made a friend of mine happy though, he didn't have to buy his own:D

Paid 51$ for Deus Ex myself, it looks like I should have waited.

Oh well, I guess we all have to pay taxes on our own stupidity from time to time.

Soundmanred, you are taking this WAY too personal.

This game really sucks, and I am not the only one that think so.
With each new game release, we expect better Graphic, AI, and Game Physics. Human Revolution not just didn't rise the bar on those criteria, it couldn't even meet those criteria by today's standard!

My recollection of the hacking in Bioshock was that it was basically the old Windows 95 game Pipe Dreams. Which was totally awesome.
