Hum with dryer

The dryer has a very loud hum. It doesn't happen right away when you turn it on. I say withen about 3 minutes this loud hum starts up. I have cleaned out the lint from the back of the dryer and replaced the hose and cleaned out the lint hole to the outside. I read it may be a coil in the motor? If that were the case, why does it take 2-3 minutes for this very loud hum to occur?

Any idea what this loud hum could be? Maybe the bearings around the dryer its self?

Thanks.

Coil whine can be temperature dependent which would explain why it takes a warm up period. A bearing can do that too.

It seems less likely to be a motor coil and more likely a motor bearing. There is also the drum bearing but open the dryer and look at what you're dealing with. the drum bearing may just be a ball stud on the drum itself sitting in a plastic bushing mounted to the frame, which isn't as prone to humming, more of a squeaking but you could grease that while you have it open and inspect for excessive wear.

I suppose it's possible the hum could be some kind of contact interaction between the belt and pulleys if the belt is damaged, stretched too far, or if the idler pulley tension spring is shot (if it has one instead of belt tension maintained by a fastener sliding in an adjustment slot to move the motor/pulley distance to take up belt slack).

Maybe mention what dryer make/model/age in case someone knows specifics related to it?

If you post the model number somebody might be interested enough to investigate further. There are several sites that sell appliance parts that have component diagrams that may make clearer any potential areas that could be generating the noise.
