hulu plus question

Thinking of cutting the cord but we'd miss some shows especially on HGTV / Bravo. I notice Hulu has these networks. Are the shows pretty much available immediately? Or does it work like Netflix where it will eventually be added. I think when Hulu was completely free, an episode was only available the day after. Also, do they have an archive of every episode in the past, like if a show has been going for 7 years...

Another thing is my kids like specific shows. I go to hulu.com to search and it says the show is on nickjr.com (click here) instead. How am I supposed to let my kids watch on the wifi-connected tv then?

I used to have Hulu Plus but canceled because of the commercials. Most of the stuff is from the major networks. They get episodes usually the day after it airs.

Netflix + Amazon Prime might be a better bet. The commericials really bugged me... I'm not paying $8/month for commercials.

Same here. I just canceled too.

I canceled Hulu Plus before the trial ended it was that bad. The commercials are excessive, the Roku app was terrible and crashed the Roku, and some shows are available almost immediately after airing but only for a short time. Netflix and Plex* are best.

*Must acquire content elsewhere

H+ is way more than $8

I tried it but hated it. None of the shows I wanted to watch were on there (current shows) and the commercials were terrible. Plus the app sucked. Froze more than it worked. Maybe its good now but it for sure wasn't worth any money.

I never saw any commercials. Ad Muncher ftw!

added the next day. they usually have the complete backlog if they have the rights to it. that's why i like it.

i have amazon prime and it's not bad. you're limited in devices that can stream it though. wdtv live doesn't. chromecast doesn't.

netflix is good but they don't have all the new stuff. price is good and you can stream to a lot of devices. lots of good documentaries on there.

what about episode availability for amazon prime? Is it the day after or well beyond that? Also it appears that I have to buy episodes? Or does that go away after I sub to Prime?

ie. http://www.amazon.com/Homebuyers-Hun...&keywords=hgtv

with Amazon, there are 2 different services:
Prime and Instant. You can buy pretty much any episode you want but Prime includes some for free. Its not bad but its not all inclusive. But neither is H+.

I cancelled because they don't carry the shows I want to watch. Aside from the premium channels like HBO, they have none of the decent stuff on AMC, FX, TNT, A&E, etc... Most anything that's good on Hulu is on the big 4 networks and I can get those with rabbit ears.

right...I want to say USA was the deal breaker for me. But this was a while ago and that could have changed.

Maybe it's a chicken and egg thing. They won't get better shows without clout from more subscribers, they won't get more subscribers without better shows....

I cancelled because of awful streaming performance compared to Netflix and Amazon (buffering . . . buffering . . . ), commercials, missing networks and missing episodes.

For example when they added Supernatural season 6 or 7 (I forget) they started with episode _2_ not 1. Another show had episodes 1, (not 2), 3-on. Thanks for nothing, Hulu!

sounds like paying the extra $50/mo. for cabletv (fios) is still the way to go in general. These streaming services (other than Netflix) don't seem to satisfy the need for tube entertainment.

Amazon sells most current seasons of shows for $2 an episode, commercial free ($3 HD). So that's another option to consider if you need to see a show as it airs instead of waiting a year for disc / streaming on Netflix.

I'd rather pay that (or wait for most shows) than mess with a DVR or put up with commercials.

I pay $7.99/mo for my hulu+ subscription. I love it. Rarely crashes. I don't mind the commercials. I have not tried prime, I like to watch a lot of anime which hulu provides so if prime is better at providing content I can check it out this weekend.

Its very YMMV. For me, there are very few TV shows I watch regularly. But the ones I do are either on CBS or USA. Those two networks tend to be stingy with their programming.

But if you just want something to watch, its not bad.

You can often go to the stations website and watch the newest episodes:

http://www.hgtv.com/full-episodes/package/index.html

PBS has good stuff too. Just type in google the show you like and "watch online" and a lot of stations have the shows.

Amazon appears to have all those house hunters up to the last two seasons on prime. Apparently you have to pay for the last two seasons. However you will eventually get them.

Amazon prime is a heck of a deal. Or get netflix. You can watch HULU for free and get a good amount of shows. Then for movies you can rent from VUDU.

Honestly it's all worth it. Takes a little more effort. Sometimes you just have to be patient. But you get into a mode and know where to find everything eventually. You also start exploring other shows you didn't think you would.

I'm on the verge of cutting the cord as well. Tired of having to call up and threaten/beg for a better price. What pisses me off the most is them just upping the price with no notice. I went from 80+tax to 90+tax to $120+tax. All for the same service.

Now they want me to pay for equipment and go to the triple play to save money... No thanks, I'm not going to chance the bill going to $200 month after 6 months or whenever they feel like upping it.

I tried Hulu plus but they have some sort of app compatibility problems with my Panasonic ST60. So the experience was terrible and it seemed like little content for the money. I already have Prime and Netflix so I think I'm going to just do OTA and some sort of WMC/Home DVR setup.

That's sad to hear about hulu+. How many commercials per hour of programming? I mean 3-4 I don't really care I guess.

I know you can watch a lot of programming directly from websites, but usually the player sucks and looks like shit blown up to full size.

Is it true that you need to have TV cable subscription for certain channels if you want to watch their shows on Hulu Plus?

me too. you want me to pay for your service and have to sit through commercials? nope not gonna happen.

many networks have apps or links that you can watch the show after it airs. Like CW, Bravo, PBS
