I have read all the problems with the sb live and kt133a + 686b southbridge. And I thought that was only affected to those chipsets. One of the reasons is that my sb live and kx133 is running great. And I didn't think that the modem disconnection was a sb live / via fault. And now I just came to think about it because I have used the same modem in some other computers that didn't use the sb live, and they worked alot better than mine!
I just tried changing those things in the bios that would fix the sb live bug. Changed everything exept the pci latency. Because my nic doesn't work below 32. And now my modem is working great again. Haven't tried to much with the computer yet, so I don't know if there is some kind of performance hit. But well I can live with that since I don't have to reboot my computer every 40 minutes because of the damn modem disconnects and refuses to connect again.
So perhaps you with sb live and some kind of small annoying problems, that you could not find the source for. Try the sb live /via fix. and see if it goes away!
