The Cayenne is ugly as sin. A sad moment in Porsche's history...another car company taken over my greed.

I really don't see what is so bad about it. I suspect it's one of those vehicles that will never look as good in pictures as it does in person.

Besides, it hauls ass.

Isn't that what Porsche is really about?

Does the Aztek look better in person? HELL NO! Heck, I don't care if it gives good BJ's, it's ugly as sh!t.

And Porsche is about balls out sports cars, not 4,000 + lb SUVs.

4000+ lb SUV's that can hang with a Lightning?

And seat 3x as many while doing it?

I'll take one.

Besides, you & most everyone else here tore the 2003 Accord a new asshole over it's re-styling.

Then when you went & looked at them you decided they weren't so bad, & that you might even like them.

What does a Cayenne which costs twice as much as a Lightning pickup have to do with anything?
rolleye.gif
Cayenne can seat 5, Lightning is 3 I believe. So this "uber" Cayenne must seat 9 people :D

For $80,000 give me a REAL Porsche...a 911 Carrera 2.

And I must make an edit...the mofo weighs over 5,000 lbs. GEEZ, what a f*&king PIG!

I assumed 2 for the L & 6 for the Cayenne, I dunno if there is a middle seat on the Lightning. Even if there is, it's essentially double. I wouldn't want to be in the middle in a Lightning, but the Porsche is probably relatively comfortable for 5.

The comparison was strictly in performance, obviously they're in a totally different class. But everybody recognizes the L as a high-performance vehicle, & the Cayenne is just 1/10th of a second slower to 60 mph.

For that much mass, & the ability to seat 5/6 people, that's pretty fvckin' impressive.

This is not about performance, it's not even about looks...it's about the dilution of the Porsche name to cash in on $$$ when they are already the most profitable car company in the world.

It'd be like Ferrari marketing a pickup truck.

Remember those old VW pickups that looked like the front half of a Rabbit with a truck-bed attached to the back?
Well, to me, this looks like the front 1/3 of a 996 spliced onto a BMW X5.

They really need to black-out that trim around the windows. That alone would do wonders for the look.

I also remember it looking a LOT different in the brochures I saw several months ago.

Companies do not make vehicles solely for the fun of it. They are in the market to make money.

If you don't like them doing that, you've got some serious issues.

They have identified a potential market (a rich one), and have supplied a product they believe will be profitable (the fastest SUV).

I say more power to 'em, & I'd be happy to drive one.

I don't like the fact that they are ruining their brand name by cashing in on a vehicle that owes nothing to its heritage. Would you rave over a Ferrari SUV? Some things JUST don't go together.

Hyundai and $100,000 sports car don't go together
Ferrari and $50,000 pickup don't go together

And the Cayenne is DEFINITELY not in keeping with the Porsche name. Sure, car companies are out to make a buck, but with a company like Porsche, the enthuiast tone of the company is greater than in a bueracratic mess at GM or Ford...or at least I thought it was until now.

Also, it offers no manual transmission. That AIN'T a real Porsche in my books.

I for one think it's a beautiful SUV and would love to be able to have the opportunity to drive one or see it.

Most of us will probably never see it on the road and I cant imagine that they will make that many of them, but still. If I had money to burn and a family I would like to have one of these, I would drive the nice 911 when it was just me and than when I had the family I would drive them around in the Cayenne :D

Quit your bitchin, it's a great thing for them to have. If you dont like it make sure the next Porsche you buy is a 911... Just my 2 cents

nfs4 - how do you feel about the x5?

Overpriced 5-Series wagon that handles worse, accelerates slower, carries less cargo, has less passenger space, and gets worse gas mileage.

Yeah, that about sums it up :D

BTW, the type of person who would buy this is me when I'm 50+
I would pull up to those damn kids in their Civics scooting around like it's some kind of race car and totally smoke their @ss, it would make me feel young again :D

Rather than thinking of it as diluting the Porsche name, think of it as giving those who want the passenger moving prowess of an SUV a Porsche option.

For the people that can use a two-seater sports car as a daily driver, the 911 will be there. For those who want something to blast around in when it's more than the driver, their date, & two cm³ of luggage, the Cayenne will be there.

This isn't replacing Porsche's heritage, it's augmenting it. Why limit themselves to the weekend driver market when they can provide a balls-out daily driver as well?

Well, I've ridden in two 996 911's. Both would make fine daily drivers. Trunk space is small up front, but fold down the rear seats and you can haul some groceries and sh!t ;)

Even so, the 911 has got to be one of the most civilized sports cars on the market. The 911 is FAR from just a weekend racer.

It's not about passenger moving. It's about pandering to mainstream suburban soccer dads who don't know a damn thing about cars except "Porsche = leet". Proof being the fact that it only comes with an auto. A Cadillac SUV was bad enough.
Why didn't Porsche just make a wagon? They are destroying their brand image, and the Cayenne WILL be seen in the future as one of the great mistakes of automobile history.

phew, I thought those "repost nikpiks" will hunt me down...

and to please the both worlds:
VW Toureg or Audi Magellan

anyways, just as long as Porsche doesn't make pickup and cars that's smaller than a Civic, my respect is still on.
oh, btw: I read in one magazine, Porsche will use that V8 engine in another new car name C3 or E3 or something like that.
