Interesting news from AMD: It plans to sort of launch it's upcoming K10 CPU on this coming monday if one can trust an interview of two AMD spokesmen at the french website Syndrom-OC.net. In this interview Giuseppe Amato (Technical Director, Sales and Marketing EMEA) and Philip G. Eisler (Senior Vice President, Chipset Division) are talking about the transition of the K8 to it's 65nm version, the K8L (L = Low Power). Furthermore they are explaining the new features AMD implemented into the Barcelona core and prove the rumor that it will come with 2.6 GHz only at the release.

Ok L does not = Lower Power. Apparently the story goes that the successor to K8 would be K9, but that is not a great name for an architecture for obvious reasons. so they instead want to name it K8.50, and the (greek/roman?) letter for 50 is L, so K8L. Other people have been saying that AMD is just skipping this and calling it K10.

As or the claim tat it is being released on monday, that is probably a mistunderstanding that AMD is doing a public technology conference on monday, probably talking about Barcelona, and you can hear it VIA Here. Which I got from this news article.

Well this should be good news if they actually have a real demo of the processor. Nothing less right now and it will just sound like nails on the chalkboard.

It depends, the Inquirer thought it was this:

K8L = Turion 64 Mobile Line
K9 = Athlon 64x2 line,
K10 = Barcelona based Core's.
