Huge temp discreptancy between cores...

Hi all,

I just put an oem X2 3800 in my system and used my old 3200+ h/s fan with it and some Shin Etsu thermal grease.

Basically temps between cores are very large. Yet, when I run Prime95 the hottest one will get to about 59/60C and the cooler one will catch up to about 53/54. Thats as close as the cores will come to each.

Everything seems to be working fine, I like the performance. I've tested with games and such and all is good.

Just a quirky part or should I be concerned?

I did the install last night, reseated the h/s a few times and no difference.

Thanks much,

Ben

I forgot to add there is no overclock, nor am I interested in overclocking because my bios won't let me.

System specs:

HP a1330e - Windows XP Home
AMD X2 3800+
1 40gb WD
1 120gb WD
Foxconn 7600GT
Leadtek PVR2000
PCI slot fan
Audigy SE
4X256 DDR
300watt Bestec psu, 19amps on the 12V

The same thing happens with my X2 Manchester.

One thing to keep in mind is AMD states the on-die sensor that CoreTemp uses is only accurate within +/- 15C. That's a huge range when you think about it. While many say it's normal to have a few degrees difference between cores, I question the readings that I get with my dual-core.

Given the difference between your cores, I think your CoreTemp readings are bogus.

Thats good to know. Your Core Temp says the TDP is 59 while mine is like 78, whats that mean? Shouldn't mine be lower since I don't have an oc?

PS where is your background from? And how'd you get the Black bar on your windows? It looks cool.

His is the newer manchester core which is a lower wattage part. Yours is the older toledo core with 1/2 cache disabled.

Pretty much all my wallpaper comes from Interfacelift.com (free), and the theme used is Microsoft's Zune.
