I just built my own computer and i got everything installed (OS, drivers, etc.). However, i am getting NO sound. It is an onboard sound from creative (AC97 codec + Creative CT5880 sound). I checked everything, volume is not muted, all the current drivers are installed from the motherboard CD, and the speaker connection is tightly connected. Can someone supply me with the solution to this problem??

BTW, i have the Gigabyte 7DX motherboard

Here is a link, click on GA-7DX-- http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/pro_newamd.htm

Make sure the speakers aren't the problem, plug in headphones or other devices to see if you get sound. Or you could just plug your speakers into a walkman to see if they output sound.

Is the ribbon connecting the sound card interface correctly attached to the motherboard? Might not hurt to try switching it around.

Maybe a little more info about your system, OS, drivers, setup, etc., might help us with giving you advice.

Another thing to check is resource conflicts. Can you hear a MIDI file play? I know windows will play sound for a brief moment and cut out if IRQs are conflicting...

Well... It's not the card's fault since you can hear sound from your headphones. Something is wrong either with your hookup or the speakers themselves

What kind of speakers are you using? Self powered? You didn't say, but if the other computer has an old soundcard with an onboard amp and you were using passive speakers, then you'll get minimal volume out of them now. Should be hearing something though.

Dunno, just eliminating something.

no its not the speakers because they work perfectly when hooked to the other computer that i have while also has onboard sound. Everything seems to be fine except this problem. Someone please HELP! :((

The set of speakers are one of those that attaches to the side of the monitor. It says Polk Audio on it.

Did you install the drivers for the CT5880? Try downloading them from gigabyte's site, I had problems too with the those on the cd.
After installing them make sure you choose your right setup - 2 or 4 speakers are the options. Connections are like this Up-->Down
1. Line out
2. Line in (ONLY when 4 speakes selected this is used as second Line out)
3. Mic in
I assume that you have only 2 speakers, so choose to right option, and plug them in 1.

i tried that but it still doesn't work. Is it possible that my speakers are disabled by windows or the motherboard or something?

i do not think those speakers are self-powered. you will need to get speakers that have their own built in amplifier. the reason you had sound from your old computer is because the sound card in it supplied power to the speakers. the one you have now does not. if you set the software volume controls to max, and place your ear ON the speaker, you will probably hear sound extremely faintly. that is the best you're going to get until you get speakers with their own power. of course, i could be completely wrong, but that's what it looks like from where im sitting.
