Huge Problem with my Windows XP Install :(

Okay, after 2 hard drives, 3 CD-ROMs and 2 hours of talking sweetly to it, I finally got an OS to install on my new machine. Turned out that the format software I was using was corrupted and the built in formating in WinXP seemed to work great.

BUT!!!! ARGHHHH!!!!!

When the system booted up for the first time, for some reason it prompted me for a username and password (usually it just goes straight to the desktop the first time). I typed in the username I had specified during the install and hit enter without putting a password in. Boom, error: The specified domain controller could either not be found or connected to".

This is a clean install of WinXP ppl and it's asking me for domain controller info and crap. CRAP!

I tried booting into safe mode and when I tried to log into the admin account, I got the same error. Tried using "administrator" as the password and same thing.

PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!!!! I think I'm gonna cry

You didn't specify a password during the setup? After it tells you a domain controller could not be found does it just kick you back to the logon screen?

Hmm...I tried searching the MS knoweldge base real quick but didn't find anything that may help you out. You may want to search through it though.

If your getting a message that states "...domain controller could not be found...." I find it very odd that windows will not continue to load to the desktop.
You computer thinks your connected to a MAN/LAN and the domain controller is unavalible. Just because you can't gain access to the network shouldn't keep you from finishing the boot up.

I'm only assuming your can't get to the desktop. If you can let us know. If you can the problem may be something easy like you have Client for Microsoft Networks loaded in your network configs.

You should be able to hit cancel at that point instead of logging in and it should take you to the desk top at least.

When the error bos re-appears, there is only an OK button which brings me back to the login.

Tried using CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the 2000 style login and login as admin but nothing.

It's almost like when it was installing, it decided it was on some huge part of a network rather then sitting on my chest freezer in my basement.
