I've seen ones like that before... almost looks like it was inspired by a jet turbine. Give me my plain old hsf combo and my extra +3C any day before you get one of those babies near my case.

Coolermaster had a similar product first... Only the fan in the CM item blew air down onto the HS... It didn't have the pipes, but it was produced before those were being used all that much for desktops (been in laptops for a long time now).

I don't think many people are impressed by the asus item. Maybe because there are other companies that do more with processor cooling that are doing better things that don't weigh as much...

Well, glitzy jet-turbine design aside, the proof is in the putting.

We'd like to see some comparison reviews.

I'd also like to see some comparison reviews featuring the ThermalTake FANLESS 103.

Here's an observation, though. Since it's manufactured or marketed by ASUS, it would be a guideline as to what they feel is "safe" in terms of weight and torque due to the height of the unit pulling down on the motherboard.

But again -- "How does it cool?" I posted a link to a German geek-mag the other day comparing a Zalman CNPS-7700-Cu, an identically sized clone of the Zalman, and an XP120 using a fan with similar rpm and throughput ranges. They used the same test-bed in every one, took readings at the same room temperature values, and used bar-graphs to display the resulting idle and load temperatures at two different controlled fan speeds applied to each and all of the three units.

Those are the kinds of comparison reviews we'd like to see more of.

That is one freaky looking HSF. I would not want that hanging off my board, and I have a ALPHA PAL8045 currently!

But like the Duck said, I wonder how it actually cools...

Well, goofy is in the eye of the beholder, you get several colors to choose from I think.

LOL wow it takes up like half the motherboard!! But actually if you think about it, it's designed pretty well. Air blows directly over the cooling fins, then exited right out the back exhaust. Cooling is ok, my XP-90 cools better than it does even at full rpms but mine is also pretty loud with the Panaflo.

400g??? That thing is pure copper and about the size of my head. That can't be right..

Well, that's what the REVIEW said. Usually, responsible people don't print falsehoods, inaccuracies or misrepresentations under an assumption that someone, somewhere could take the trouble to verify. Probably the thing to do is visit the ASUS product-specification page and double-check that.
