Huge Blast in Northern California Neighborhood

It's near San Francisco International but early reports are saying its from a gas line. WTF? Is it that easy for a gas line to blow up a neighborhood. I've always been a fan of reasonable infrastructure spending.

The most interesting part to me is all the reports of a plain crash. Some heard the turbines whine and the plane go down, others saw a tail section of a plain.

As I have said many times people don't believe what they see, they see what they believe. Few people it seems, have the personal integrity not to know things they don't know. Somebody might think you're stupid if you are honest.

Apparently, folks have been complaining to PG&E for 3 weeks. One news story said that PG&E crews have been in the neighborhoods checking for the source...but no official reports.
I saw the press conference this morning. The president of PG&E was doing the usual Corporate Two-Step.

Of course they are sidestepping, they know rule # 1 is never admit fault because that = $$$$.

Wasn't sure if it was something reported that they didn't care to even look into.

This blast happened just 10 miles from where I live. It's the only thing being discussed on every local radio station this morning. One expert was speculating that the ruptured gas line may have been caused by gradual earth shifting over time as it is right on the San Andreas fault line. He says the pipes are 50 years old as are most of the gas pipes in the bay area. There was also some discussion of the fact that human meter readers being replaced by these "smart meters" might be a problem as supposedly a human reader might have detected a problem before it happened.

I did also hear reports of people having smelled gas well before the explosion, and having reported it to PG&E. If that turns out to be accurate, I smell a big lawsuit...

PG&E spent $45 million on a losing ballot measure to prevent public power. Perhaps they should spend more of their money on taking care of their obligations to their customers than on political shenanigans?

There are water main breaks somewhere around town at least once a week. The street floods, the crews come out and fix the pipes and everything is back to normal.

A gas main breaks, the fumes ignite, and all hell breaks loose.
