Whenever i enter any kind of game or other 3d app, the frame rate drops to about .1 fps, only diagonally cut halves of text menu items show a one time, and i cannot control the cursor. It would really be appreciated if someone can tell me wtf is wrong with it. (Ive tried getting the newest drivers, no luck) maybe a directx prob? i dunno. It worked before, but not now:(
My system:
Sony Vaio
P4 2.0 ghz
512mb DDR333
msi ti4600 128m
windows xp
(i didnt pick it out, of course)

P.S. way sorry if this is in the wrong forum or something

A little off the usual thought track, but check for viruses and spyware. Also check to make sure you've got the best driver for your setup. Sometimes, the latest isn't the greatest.

Good luck. :)

It sounds like your card is borked to me.

You could try some older drivers like Harvey mentioned.

Check for updated motherboard chipset drivers.

No one likes to do it, but the easiest way to know for sure would be reformat & reinstall drivers...if it's still borked...then it's time for a new card i'd say.

Use the latest version of Driver Cleaner, then install the 43.45 or 44.03 (both work fine) Detonator drivers.

Im not familiar with the term "borked", but ive reformatted 3 times; initially the problem goes away, but around 3 days later, its back again. Also, i did get the newest chipset drivers. Which graphics drivers would you recommend for my situation though?
also, are you sure that this has nothing to do with directx?

borked = dead, though if it works for a while after a fresh install that may not be the case. That's actually a rather odd problem, don't suppose you have another power supply or video card to use for testing purposes? Are any and all fans on the card in working order? Anyway, the 43.45 and 44.03 dets give the best performance for 4x00 series cards. Newer drivers are made with newer cards in mind, and give lower performance. Did you run driver cleaner as per instructions, or just run the executable? There's an ~8 step process you should follow for best results... though again, if it happens right after a reinstall that may not be the culprit...

Thomas, use driver cleaner, and try some differnt drivers, like Omega Drivers. Looking forward to 9th grade?

(Thomas is a good friend of mine)

Lighten up. He wasn't f*cking with you. He was recommending another driver that works well for him. You obviously have other problems, but you can always remove a driver and install another.

As others have posted, it's important to clean out remenants of other driver versions.

For older driver versions, here's the link to nVidia's driver archives. Also, try this link to guru3d.com's nVidia driver page for Detonator Destroyer or Detonator R.I.P. Both are free and clean remaining dregs of nVidia drivers from your registry. They can interfere with other versions of the drivers you install, later.

WARNING -- guru3d.com is a great source, but use Mozilla or Netscape, or use another good pop-up blocker.

Lol Thomas, don't be so harsh with them. The nicer you are, the more help you will receive.

4 reformattings and 2 weeks later, my problems persist. I have almost lost all hope of ever playing another game on this pc, and as i am 14 i cannot afford another one any time soon.:(

It's obviously not software if a reformat doesn't fix it.

Check the fan on the video card, and if it's still good try another card.

Make sure the motherboard chipset drivers are also properly installed, with the latest if possible. The AGP driver is really important. Once this is setup OK, then install the video card drivers. Also make sure you have the latest DirectX updates for WinXP.
