Treason has a very specific description and requirements; I'd be surprised if Manning is ever tried for treason. Assuming Obama decides to try him in civil court rather than a court martial (or giving him a medal and a lolly), he would probably face espionage or sedition charges.

I can just barely imagine a prosecutor and even a grand jury being stupid enough or partisan enough to do so. I cannot imagine even the most leftist judge not throwing out such charges though.
