Hub Vs Switch

Can anybody tell me the difference between a hub & a switch, which is faster & better? Is the wiring for an 100mbps network different from one for a 10mbps network? Also does switch reqire a different wiring?

I don't want to seem rude, but have you run a search on this topic? It has been discussed extensively in the past.

Hubs are dumb devices...
Switches are smart devices...

This is about as simple as i can make this...
Switches are much better!

The difference is all ports on a hub receive broadcasts whereas only the port that is intended to receive the info on a swith gets the info. Therefore a 10/mb 24 port hub share 10mb between all ports and on a switch each port is dedicated 10mb or 100mb depending on the speed.

i.e. switches are more efficient and hubs you will have more packet collision with the broadcasts all the time = slower.

Hey, if I have 4 of us playing quake through my hub is that going to be considerably slower than if I had it on a switch? (It is a 24 port 10/100 hub with 11 PCs and a server)
