subject pretty much says it all. I just got Road Runner cable modem, and I need to network 2 other PCs (so 3 total) to the modem. I have a hub already, but I didn't know if a router would be a better way to go.

The content of these links will help:

The Basic Options to Share Internet Connection (Internet Sharing 101)

Hubs, routers, switches, DSL, LANs, WANs...?

If you decide to go the Cable/DSL Router way.

1. Most RR services use the MAC number of the NIC as Password. Get a Router that can clone the NICâ??s MAC (most of them do it).

2. The main difference between the Entry level Cable/DSL Router is number, and ranges of port that can be opened through the Firewall. If you use special Internet application, or are an online gamer, get a Router that has the max flexibility in this category.

Will I need a crossover to go from the cable modem into the router (Barricade 4 port), or will a straight cable do?
