Hu Jintao or Jintao Hu? Which which is which?

This seems confusing to me:


Hes always referred to as Hu, but...

arent most people referred to by their last name, such as President Bush? So why isnt he called President Jintao?

If Hu is his last name, why is he called "Hu Jintao"?

IIRC in china (and several other asian nations i believe) they say the last names first

Asians usually go by their first name first (well, Chinese and Vietnamese at least).

It's really Ming Yao (see jersey).

Hu is surname. In China, surname goes before given name.

So in Chinese you say....

Hu Jintao but you say that in English also....

AFAIK, correct. But if you were to greet him you would say President Hu.
