www.paypal.com is the domain, and the https:// indicates that the page is encrypted with SSL. This is exactly what you want if you are making a payment.
 
is this the first time you've made ANY payment online? or have all your previous payments, from any online store, done over http? b/c you might be fuct.

Yes, a big 10-4 to what everyone else said. Although in the grand scheme of things, nobody is going to steal your credit card by listening to the traffic between you and the webserver. The HTTPS protocol is nice and all, but your credit card is in far more danger from poorly protected online databases than anywhere else.
