HTTP server problems

I am running WINXP with 512MB DDR and a 2.1Ghz proc and have had Apache installed for testing all web sites I produce on localhost, as well as provide files to the other computers on my network. I am connected to the network by cable modem, and have had some problems the last day or so.

Starting yesterday the network has been very slow for my computer with the HTTP server installed. Just today I noticed I cannot access the localhost as HTTP, so I cannot read the default page, which is all text. I went to shut down any programs I thought may be causing a problem, and noticed that my computer CPU usage is at 100% always. The Apache server is always using all available CPU cycles unused by the rest of the system, usually at 98-99%. There is definately something wrong with this picture, as I have never had that much CPU usage running constantly at 100%. There is no network bandwidth being used, just CPU. I ran AdAware and VirusScan and both turn up nothing. Are there any suggestions? I really have no clue.

restart the server service seems it hit a loop somewhere by the sounds of it.

It may be the code in the website casuign problems. doubtful but possible.

Hmmm, still a no-go. Removed and reinstalled and still occurs, guess I'll just have to dig out my old system and push Apache from there  Oh well, thanks for the try, if you have any other suggestions they would be very much appreciated!

does this occur with a default install ie not using any of your own webpages but using the default apache place holders?
