Hi all i am someone who works in XFX india as a as the xfx testing lab is in the same building i get to see the latest xfx products at work the guys in the testing lab also dont mind and so just 2 days ago i saw a nvidia 9800 something on the work roster so i knew it was in the lab for testing so i searched the net and someone told me in a forum that it must be a 9800x2 so after i read inqurer about http://en.expreview.com/?p=184 i got the power to check it out when everyone was gone i went to the lab and one of the computer was running a game demo reel or something i pressed esc but notting i restarted the thing and then used my zen stone to download GPUZ about which i got the idea from http://en.expreview.com/?p=184 and then simply did a google on gpuz 1.5 and took the picture by installing Quick capture software...

About the test computer its athlon x2 4800+, ram is 1.5 GB of RAM microsoft windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2 registered to node6 then a serial number this is according to left clicking the my computers icon and then going to properties.

It should perform better than a 8800Gt or otherwise it wouldnt make sense to call it a 9800GT. At least in my way of thinking but you never know considering how nVidia is naming their cards lately. Now, how much better does it perform is probably a better question. 10%? 15%? 20%? 25%, etc.? Anyone wanna do a lotto on this one?

well a 7900gtx probably performs on par with a 9600gt and there are so many other branding / performance discrepancies its not even worth mentioning. fact is that the 9600gt is on par with the 8800gs and performs slower than a 8800gt.

Thats quite true. A 7900GTX performs roughly on par with X1950pro in the latest games.

I don't know why a couple of people are so hard on the 9600 GT. Not everyone buys the most expensive card they make, actually most people don't. This looks like a good budget gaming card (depending on price) to replace the 8600 GTS and compete with the 3850.

It is not slower.

New midrange = ~Old high-end.

the 9600gt doesnt look like its all that much cheaper for nvidia to make than the 8800gt 256mb.


maybe there will be 9600gt 256mb cards for really cheap like $140.


i would figure the 9600gt is taking the old 8600GTS price slot and will be something like $179 for 512mb. maybe they will just discontiune the 8800GT 256mb all together , or 8800gt and just make 8800GTS carsd.


i am actually looking forward to the 9500gt. im not a huge gamer, but if that comes in at about 90-100 it might not be too bad.

the geforce 9 series is DX10.1
So thats an advantage for a new midrange card. it will also end the confusion of the 8800WTF series.
