I need to get a ridiculous number of pictures to my sister (1GB worth). Unfortunately my ISP must scan for and filter FTP sessions as I tried that and it didn't work, regardless of what port I used.....any ideas on how to circumvent this?

However my ISP (comcast), it seems, is not scanning the http port 80. So I've setup a small webserver for her to download from me that way.

Anyone know of a simple and free image leeching utility for windows? She's OK with computers, but not very savvy, so I'd like to avoid console-based progs if possible.

Yeah....I would tell her to just use the downloadthemall extension with firefox....but she's not gonna switch to a new browser for just this.

how's the compression ratio if you zip... say... 100MBs worth of pics as 1 zip. You'll have just a few zips for her to click on...

yeah.....they don't compress at all really considering they're JPGs and compressed by nature. I may just have to have her do that though. And it would be like 4 files about 300MB each (last one 40MB)

another solution I'm trying to research out is VPN. I've never setup vpn before....but it doesn't look too hard. hmmm....she'll be in bed by now, too late to try it tonight. :-/

WTF? Comcast blocks FTP totally? They can go blow a goat.

Tiny HTTP server, RAR with no compression and recovery record, have her leech them all.

Edit - Oh, and if one of you has XP Pro, make a Remote Admin session and enable remote drives.

Is that free??? I've never seen or heard of that before. I dunno.....these are her wedding pictures I'm sending her. I'm not too keen on other people seeing them.....though it's not like VPN or FTP would have been very secure.

I've scrapped the HTTP idea for right now. I may just try to send it over IM or something like that if I can.....hell, I'm not even sure she uses IM.

Anyway, this service is interesting...I'll have to read into it.
