HTTP Error 403 (Forbidden)

So this is the first message I've posted but I'm having some technical difficulty... I just got my DLS installed and its working fine but when I go to some websites it gives me this message:

"You are not authorized to view this page" and says HTTP Error 403 (Forbidden)

I don't have a firewall and I've called my DLS support people but they seem to not have a clue. I've also downloaded the Internet Explorer System Pack 1 but that didn't fix the problem either. Does anyone have a clue what I can do????

I CAN get into my yahoo mail and email accounts but I CANNOT get into my hotmail email account and other sites that are secure (for example, when I have tried making purchases online). Just 2 weeks ago I had dial-up and never had this problem before so I keep thinking its the DSL but the tech support guy thinks I am crazy! He's probably correct, but I want to be able to buy a PS2 and can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong.... Thanks!!! ;)

If you were on AIM right now I'd help ya but you're not :(

403 means it's something on your end...have you tried clearing out your cookies yet? Or maybe your Internet Options -> Security settings are too high. Not sure b/c I don't really use Hotmail though

Perhaps you need the more expensive DSL where you're actually authorized to do stuff? ;)

Just kidding there.. This one's out in left field, but how about an MTU size issue on a PPPoE connection?

Doesn't a 403 error usually be associated with improper permission configuration on the webserver?

I don't see how the DSL is resulting in this... albeit perhaps the MTU is the problem. Packets are getting
fragmented and causing weird authentication issues???

Ok, now, the final answer :)

"403 Forbidden The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it."

Meaning, the server is refusing your attempt to open the page in question. Usually, it means your username or password is invalid (are you trying to get into the membership area of Playboy.com?! :) )

She only gets it trying to access secure sites (HTTPS or HTTP w/ encryption). She's using both types of SSL, we've tried diff. Security and Privacy settings. Only happened after she installed DSL. Weird thing is:

In Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Proxy Server -> Advanced, she has a proxy server setup in the Secure box. However, she cannot access ANY site if she takes that setting out. (We've tried typing it in the HTTP box) Figure it has something to do with that, I'm all out of ideas though

Ahh... I could see a proxy causing that problem... she's forced to use a proxy? That's lame...
Wait a second... she??? I don't believe we've been introduced :D

What kind of wacked out internet setup does she have? ;) The problem is most likely associated with that proxy.

Comcast DSL is her service provider. She said she called their useless tech support who couldn't help her at all :|

I have Comcast and honestly I don't know much but that when I first was setting up the account I had some troubles getting online and now here I am.

Oh yeah, I also know that I am NOT trying to subscribe to any Porn sites! ;)

Well then I refuse to help at all. :p

Try taking out that proxy setting, disconnecting and reconnecting the PPPoE connection. Just a wild guess. You should find out exactly why they require you to use a proxy for secure sites. I've never seen a DSL or cable company do that before.

Post pictures of yourself. A redheaded nurse will garner sympathy from the ATOT masses. :p

You could also try the Networking forum. :)
