HTT speed and Memory Speed

Sorry for being a complete newbie ... but what is

HTT speed

and is it the same as the memory speed ?


If someone over clockers an Opteron 165 with HHT@300 ... what speed is the memory running at?
 
The HTT speed is nothing more then the bus speed. If your HTT speed was 300 and you wern't using a divider, your memory speed would be 300mhz (DDR600) which is pretty much impossible, so if you ran the HTT at those speeds, you would have to run a divider.
 
So therefore with a divider ... if HTT speed (in otherwords is FSB) running at 300Mhz

your memory will be running at a lower FSB speed ...

Would that affect the overall performance?

Just to clarify, I don't think it would be running at a lower FSB speed as the A64 have an on die memory controller so they really have no real FSB.

With a divider your memory would be running at a lower memery speed (say DDR400 with a 166 divider would=DDR333, don't ask me how as I have no idea).

And no, you wouldn't notice the drop in performance. (EXTREAMLY minimal performance drop, you won't even notice it.)
 
Memory Frequency = (HTT x CPU mutilplier) / CEIL(CPU multiplier x (HTT : DRAM ratio)). I just put a worked example here.
