HTPC worthy Media Player?

I am trying to stream media files to and from HTPC and file server. WM9 can't keep up with the file volume and "crashes". I seperated files into folders and types but still its overwhelming MP9.

Is there any media player that can handle large file volumes and network streaming?

these are all Winxp machines. I also have a xbox connected.
