HTPC Wiring Question

Greetings!

I recently moved and have a question concerning my HTPC setup and wiring…

I previously had the following setup- Nvidia GTS 250 w/ clone displays @ 1080p resolution (one going to Plasmsa TV via HDMI Cable and the other to 24in monitor in upstairs office via long DVI Cable.) This setup worked great for me, as I could use 1 PC as my HTPC and Office Workstation.

I moved and I can no longer have a long DVI cable running from the office to the living room as the house is 1 story unlike the last, but I want to have the same setup, or as close to it as possible. Are there any devices that you guys would recommend that would work for me? Perhaps wireless HDMI? I have a 7.1 sound system setup as well, so that would be a plus, but if 5.1 is as good as I can go then so be it. I have yet to convince the other half to let me hang the rear speakers somewhere. Moreover, I don’t care whether the computer is with the home theater equipment (in the living room) or with the office equipment (in the office)… just whatever will be easier/cheaper/better.

My other option would be to build a totally new PC to use as an HTPC only. I built my current machine with the expectation I can get rid of 2 machines, and it has worked great, until the move.

Thanks in advance for your ideas/suggestions!

Wireless HDMI doesn't really work an is expensive.
A separate machine would be better, try to keep them hardware compatible and one can just be last year's model as you upgrade.

Another option:
If it's your house, are you sure you can't run a wire or cable? You can get HDMI to run for about 100ft with the right cables, and you can get USB repeaters to run a USB connection to the other room. You could embed the cables in the walls/floor/etc.
