Hey as far as video quality playback does it make a difference if i have windows installed on the pc? (ie is there any difference between just installing openelec only vs running Kodi in a windows environment whether I'm using on board graphics or a dedicated gpu?)

Basically does windows offer any sort of improvement?

Specs for hardware I have lying around

Asus Z87 Deluxe
8 gigs of ram
3tb green hard drive
Intel Celeron G1850

Windows 7 will have a small advantage with interlaced VC1 files because of driver issues. But interlaced VC1 is very rare. Most stuff is h264 where I think Openelec is better because VAAPI is a more solid backend than DXVA (and heck it is hard to beat the appliance feel of Openelec). And it will play, just not look as nice because it is CPU decoded.
