7MC + My Movies + Netflix plugin + TMT5 + 3rd-party Hulu plugin + Kylo browser. Everything is controlled through a Harmony One in 7MC and I have an IO Gear keyboard for mucking about in Win 7 when it's necessary. Currently using a 4-tuner setup with ATSC and NTSC/ClearQAM from Brighthouse. When the Silicon Dust Prime is released I'll be switching over to Verizon FIOS w/ CableCard.

Still using XBMC on multiple softmodded Xboxes around the house. I'm not worried about HD so the Xbox still works fine for me.

I've tried nearly everything that comes along, and I always... ALWAYS go back to XBMC. It just simply can not be beat. I've been using it since the early days on Xbox1 before it was called "XBMC"

My wife and kids have been using XBMC without fail too (kids are 7 and 9 and have been using it themselves for the past 2 years or so).

softmodded Xboxes are the cheapest, prettiest, and easiest route for .AVI/Xvid playback, but I do have an HTPC for my MKVs. it is, however, getting harder to watch SD after seeing many movies in HD, whether it be 720 or 1080p....either way, XBMC FTW !! (btw, I use MediaCompanion to scrape my movie folders everytime I add something to them)

WMC7 with a tv tuner makes a really good PVR and all round media player, install arcsoft TMT and it will play blurays as well.

I used to use XBMC on the OG Xbox, but it couldn't handle HD movies or recording TV.

Go to mediaportal and your life will be complete... As much as I liked sagetv, its interface just hasn't stayed modern. The recording side of it though is still amazing (in fact, that still controls what I record, I just don't use its front end anymore).

yeah, it recording capabilities are what I love. The new version 7 with diamond addon is very nice. but I'm looking for a way to ditch cable

What Hulu plugin do you use? I've got my 7MC set up exactly the way I want and that's the last piece to the puzzle. I would like to launch Hulu from MC7 and then have it go back to MC7 when closed.

I've been stuck on this lately as well. Considering some sort of cheap media streamer to handle my MKVs and using a FiOS DVR instead of building a full HTPC. Seems I could save money and deal with a lot less hassle.

another vote for XBMC, I got my set up with the Cinema Experience plugin. I invite friends over and before the movie 2 minutes of trivia slides, than an old cartoon (popeye or gumby) then a HD trailer from Apple's web site and into the movie. Makes me feel like I'm a kid again at the drive in. Honestly my friends are about 50/50 on who likes it and who doesn't. XBMC is so customizable and there's really nothing I dislike about it.

Windows Media Center + ffdshow + haali splitter + registry tweak to recognize MKV = perfect.

SageTV with the new Diamond plug in. I absolutely love Sage. I have three HD-300 extenders running 3 LCD TV's around my house. Going to pick up another extender soon for a 4th TV.
