Ok i need the help of some of you HTPC experts out there especially those who are experienced with CCC and Avivo....

Just some backround info.. I'm running everything through an Onkyo sr 706 receiver via HDMI from the onboard HDMI out on my MB. I have a primary monitor running from my Video card

MY GOAL: Being able to play .mkv files encoded with both .ac3 files and DTS in full 5.1 without jitters and the best picture quality possible through AVIVO.

Presently I have my computer setup with all the updated and necessary drivers but I'm going to do a clean install once I can understand which drivers & software I need in order to reach my goal.

The following is what I have discovered and having issues with:

1. AVIVO settings won't override VLC Media Player but will when playing a .wmv file with Windows Media Player. Why is this? How can I resolve this issue? Is there an alternative I can use other then VLC that comes highly recommended?

2. When I run the Audio through the SPDIF out rather then HDMI I get an option that allows me to use 'A/52 over S/PDIF' as an 'Audio Device'. How is this any different from using 5.1 as an option? My receiver recognizes that audio signal as a true 'A/52 over S/PDIF' Dolby Digital (for .ac3 audio) and a true DTS signal (for DTS audio) but the audio doesnt come through right at all. All i get is jitters in the audio.

When I use the HDMI cable for my audio, 'A/52 over S/PDIF' is no longer an option. I can select '5.1, MONO, STEREO, 2 REAR 2 FRONT'. My receiver then can further encode that to a DTS, Dolby. How does this compare to the signal I get from 'A/52 over S/PDIF' when using SPDIF?? What's the differences between using SPDIF and HDMI for audio?

3. Video sometimes plays with jitters. This is a tough one for me to resolve because I don't understand exactly where the problem is rooted as I have tried many things. I'm thinking it's a software/codec issue.

What Helps:

1. When I retsart my computer, giving my computer a fresh boot
2. Disabling my primary monitor all together and using my TV as my Primary and ONLY monitor.

So my question is, is it common to get jitters when you have both TV and Monitor operating at the same time even though ones connected to the onboard VGA and the other to a seperate Graphic Card (Auss 4830)? How can I resolve jitter issues?

4. What's the ideal setup? Using my onboard HDMI for A/V, HDMI for Video and SPDIF for audio or DVI out from my the Asus 4830 & SPDIF for Audio?

5. What software/drivers/codecs are you guys using? I'm using CCC w/AVIVO, VLC Media Player & WMV. I haven't isnatlled any codecs or filters. Do I need to install any?

I appreciate any feedback, comments and suggestions.

Thanks In Advance :)

is the system you're using in your signature?
When I was having studdery playback it was a conflicting codec problem. I was using a codec pack and then downloaded additional codecs thinking the pack didnt include mkv support for some reason. I uninstalled all codecs and then reinstalled only the ones I needed and everything worked fine.
