HTPC Hard Drive

I'm wondering what Hard Drive to use for my MCE2005 HTPC. It's one of the Intel MCE2005 reference kits. ( looks like a VCR ) The chasis is VERY tight inside, and gets HOT. I need a fast, low-temp SATA HD for it. I bought a Seagate 300GB 7200.8 series HD, but it runs WAY too hot. Almost burns your skin to touch it. I have a 1rst gen 120GB Western Digital in there as a temporary solution, but that's not big enough. ( running with cover off as well ) I've been looking at the new Western Digital Caviar SE16 and the Maxtor MaxLine III series. Anyone using either of these drives? Any suggestions/comments ?

Samsung are the best for heat, noise and reliability. But it sounds like you're going to have a heat problem anyway.

You might be bettter off keeping your current drive and spending the money on a new case. I do have 2 of the Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB in my MCE05 box, Don't really pay much attention to heating issues as I have a regular Antec case with 1 80mm fan and 2 120mm fans.

oh man.... heat is definetly gonna be an issue. How much you spend on that der box u jus bought?

BTW: pickup a seagate or sammy with fluid bearings.

Actually, NewEgg sells a complete box based on the same kit I built mine from. They don't say what drive they use though. I got mine several months ago for about $600 as a raw system builder kit. Nice box, but one of the hardest builds I've done. Disassembly is a b@ll buster. I think I may end up modding it for a squirrel cage blower or 120mm blow hole. If any of you buy one of these, beware of HEAT.
