HTPC Hard Drive Question

I'm building a HTPC that will be my gaming machine too and was wondering what the best hard drive set up would be. I know I want my PVR storage on one drive and the OS on another, but what about SATA PCI cards?

I've tried recording TV, using a capture card with hardware encoding, while playing Doom 3 and noticed lots of slowdown when the game accessed the HDD. I'm recording to a different drive than what Doom is running from. Will recording TV to a SATA PCI connected HDD while playing Doom 3 on another HDD help things out?

I don't plan on recording too much TV while playing a game, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think a different HD arrangement will help you. Seems like your CPU/RAM subsystem was just overtaxed. If you add an SATA controller, do realize that it will be on the PCI bus, whereas your current onboard controller likely has a little more bandwidth as it is embedded natively in the chipset.
