HTPC, buzzing sound when DVI is plugged in and comp is Off.

basically I have my TV normally on with the cable box. IF I plug my PC into the DVI port on the TV, I start to hear a buzzing sound even with the computer off. The only way to get rid of it other then disconnecting it, is to pull the power cable out of the wall for the computer. I've tried different outlets and such to no avail.

do i need a Shilelded DVI cable ?

Where does the buzzing come from? The TV speakers? You probably have a ground loop. You say you've tried diferent outlets, but have you tried plugging the PC, TV, and cable box (and everything else attached to the PC and TV) into the same outlet/power strip?

Maybe check that the cable, er, cable is grounded, period? If so, maybe look into something that may remove or equalize the ground b/w the cable coax and whatever it's plugged into?

Hmmm, to check that the cable coax isn't the issue, do you still hear the buzz if you plug the PC to the TV (via DVI) but unplug the cable coax from the TV?

I don't know enough about ground loops to offer much more than that. A Google search is in order, and I'm sure there are some good resources out there.

Buzzing only comes from the TV speakers. and only form the cable box component. If i put it on my DVD player with is connected via component video same as the cable no soudn its the Cable box noit likeing the PC for some odd reason. maybe the Audio cables on the cable box ???

the PC is plugged in to a differnt outlet near the TV, I alos tried the strip that the TV was plugged into. Evenr a differen PC yielded the same results.

If it's a low-pitched 60Hz hum, it's gotta be a ground loop. Make sure everything is plugged into the same circuit. Including the speakers, TV, cable box, DVD player, etc.

You also might want to get your outlets checked by an electrician (or at least pick up an outlet tester at Home Depot or RadioShack) -- they should all be on the same ground.

The cable box is connected to the TV via component cables? And you only hear the buzz if the cable box is connected to the TV and the TV is on, right?

Maybe just ask the cable company to check it out or give you a new box? That should be covered by your cable contract, and may well be the problem if your box is old (something I doubt, tho, given the component out).

yeah

its onlly coming when the TV is set to the Component 1 input, the cable box. on the other had, I have the cable box conencted directrly to the TV with regualr L/R audio cable and some digitial output cables to the usurround system. if I unplug the regualr audo and use the digital it seems just fine just to the surround there is no sound. its jsut a very low buzzing sound.
