HTPC as a video recorder

What kind of card should I be getting to use a HTPC as a video recorder. I need RCA (composite) in/out and something to run on a schedule to record. Most of the video capture cards I see seem to be meant for surveillance systems.

You need some kind of TV tuner card or an all in wonder type card that combines video card with tv tuner. USB is also an option.
I think there are some that will let you change the channel of a cable box since they have a remote output you can program.

get something like this for RCA input.

Then just use your normal gpu for the output. You might need some kind of dongle or adapter though.

check out Hauppauge.

some makers include an ir blaster to change channels on a box.

I use a 550pro from ati and a remote kit from MS with the ir blaster. I just love this thing.

I won't need to change the channel, just one that my wife wants to record. The external ones seem like the best option without building a HTPC.

I have an atom based HTPC running a 4 camera security dvr card from Swann, it works great, even when its an atom 230 single core.

I have another e4500 based HTPC runing an ATI HD AIW PCIe digital analog capture to capture analog from my dish network reciever and digital off the air, using WMC, works great as well.
