i built an HTPC a while back, and then i get a call about it.....it stopped detecting the SATA raptor for the boot device....but only when in the rack setup with other devices and a plasma screen near it. once i took it into the other room and started it up, everything worked...then i moved it back and everything continued to work...for a while...then the same thing again a month later. now i got a call again after just a week....same problem. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media and press any key"

it is getting more frequent for some reason...i'm afraid something is getting FUBARed slowley.

this only happens when it is in the rack setup...once moved away from other devices, there are no issues. it's like some kind of radiation and i dont know if i need to shield it or something. i know that their IR/RF transmitter for the wireless keyboard/mouse combo was mysteriously rendered inoperable and the range was greatly limited when it was near the plasma tv. once moved away its range became more than 4ft....but eventually it died.

any advice? does anyone shield their HTPCs?

baffled,
Leon

I don't know... I've never used a PC around a plasma.

I think you might get better advice from the HTPC area of AVSforum though.
