hi guys :)

i have noticed recently in task manager/processes that there is a process running called htpatch.exe running. i found that it is located in the windows folder and going into its properties has told me nothing about what it is or what program it is from.

I did a google search and only a few sites mention it, but couldnt find any info on it - 2 forums mention it but in a different language and all i could understand was htpatch.exe , sis and agp but i dont remember seeing it before when i installed the sis agp drivers so not sure if it really has anything to do with it.

it bothers me seeing something running that i dont have a clue about and am afraid to end it without knowing what it does.

so does anyone have a clue to what it is? what it does? and where it came from?

any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance :)

Did the file have version information on it, if so what exactly did it say? (I know you mentioned you checked, but I wasn't clear if you checked and didn't recognize what was listed or checked and it was missing entirely).

LegionX, that board use an SiS chipset? I did find some info on htpatch.exe in relation to an update for SiS chips, it appears to be a patch for hyperthreading support. I derived that from here.

Sound like it could be it?

If your not seeing it in msconfig, not sure I can tell you without looking at it. If you search your registry for htpatch.exe, where do you find it?

also under
hkey users - pretty much same info though as first.

and

hkey local machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run - htpatch

this looks like where it would be changed but not sure how or just delete the part that is htpatch

Yep, its launching from that last entry. Just highlight the entry in the left column and hit the delete key. Alternatively, you can double click on it and add something like !!! to the front of the 'data' portion. That will leave the entry there incase you want to reference it, but it will no longer launch.

Your call. If you think you might need it for something (like if you plan to upgrade to a HT capable chip) you might want to just leave it.
