Does case matter? Widget as opposed to widget?
Is there a max number of words you can use?

case doesn't matter per se but if you're making Meta tags for search engines to read, I'd read THEIR meta tag requirements first. But yeah, there is a max number from some search engines. In fact, put too much down and some search engines may automatically consider your site to be a spamming porno/marketing site.

Case? Most likely not.

Will they boost site ranking? Maybe - their main purpose is determine a site's relevancy to a search term. It's frequency vs. location on the page but using them too frequently will get you penalized.

Interesting side note, according to this webpage Google doesn't even use them.
